New York Cannabis Regulators Extend Licence Application Window by Two Weeks

New York Cannabis Regulators Extend Licence Application Window by Two Weeks

This Nov 3rd, join us for the third edition of Business of Cannabis: New York at The Williamsburg Hotel. A day long leadership summit focused on retail, investment & policy across New York and North America. Tickets on-sale now – www.cannabisnewyork.live

New York’s cannabis regulator has announced a two week extension to the cannabis licence application period in what it says is a ‘step in the right direction’.
During a board meeting the Cannabis Control Board (CCB) on Tuesday (October 17) approved the extension of the application period for general licence holders from December 4, to December 18 at 5pm.

The state’s Office for Cannabis Management (OCM) also announced via social media platform X that the priority application period for non-provisional retail dispensary or microbusiness licences has been extended by two weeks to November 17.

BREAKING: The #NYCCB has just approved extending the adult-use #NYcannabis licensing application window.

The new deadlines are:

🗓 Fri, 11/17 at 5:00 PM EST for Non-provisional Retail & Microbusiness licenses.

🗓 Mon, 12/18 at 5:00 PM EST for all other license types.

Ongoing uncertainty around the legality of the Conditional Adult-Use Retail Dispensary (CAURD) scheme, which gave demographics most impacted by cannabis prohibition the chance to apply for licences first, are understood to have been a key factor in the extension.

With the CAURD scheme on hold following a temporary injunction that was granted as part of an ongoing legal dispute, many CAURD holders are understood to be using this application window to apply.

Around 1500 licences are expected to be granted in New York during this round, including between 500 and 1000 retail dispensary licences, 40 cultivator licences, 30 distributor licences and a further 220 licences for microbusinesses.

While some businesses, many of which have called for more preparation time, have welcomed the move, others who are already paying for their locations and stock were less pleased.
